Who Rides in India – Kate Rhodes

In the Who Rides in India section, we hear from riders who have journeyed to India to ride the native breeds on a horseback safari.

Kate rode with Dundlod Safari’s on the Desert Ride to Alsisar. This is a six day route from Dundlod to the Alsisar Mahal Heritage Hotel.ย

Describe your riding background, Kate

Did you Iโ€™ve ridden for over 35 years. When I was young lots of cross country and showjumping, now more dressage and hacking. I like interesting and fast riding or solving problem horses.

Why did you choose to ride in India on a horseback safari?

I wanted to experience an India less ordinary and combine my loves of outdoors adventure, culture and of course horses.

How was your experience riding the Marwari breed of horse?

Fantastic. At first it took me some time to adjust to the Indian military saddle, which I found extremely hard, and the short gait.

The horses are very open hearted, kind natured and forward going. I really adored riding them.

How would you describe riding in rural Rajasthan with Dundlod Safari’s?

Absolutely incredible experience, I would recommend the ride to my friends and I would go again.

KATE RHODES

Bonnie and his team are hugely compassionate with their horses, and it’s good to see.

Equally Sunayana and Chef Shubash were amazing, they went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure we were all well fed and happy.

What sets a horse riding holiday on Marwari’s in Rajasthan apart from other destinations?

A winning combination of the riding terrain and incredible horses, combined with the instilled excellent and mindful horsemanship amongst the owner-riders.

And of course the fabulous smokey rose sunsets enjoyed with poppadoms and an ice cold G&T – tastes like no other!

What advice would you give to a rider who is keen to come to India to ride the Marwari’s on a horseback safari?

Bring a gel saddle pad and snacks for your saddle bag. And lots of face creams  – the climate is very drying on the skin.
